School Lands
We are exploring opportunities to return California school lands back to the Quechan people, a Southern California tribal community with deep spiritual and cultural ties to the region’s natural resources.
With funding from the California Council of Land Trusts (CCLT), NALC is facilitating the acquisition of 17 school land parcels (10,600+ acres) to be held in trust with public benefit for the Quechan people. NALC aims to assess and appraise the parcels, working alongside the Quechan, State Lands Commission, local and regional partners, and philanthropic groups to raise enough funds to “buy back” all 17 parcels.
Preservation
We are dedicated to safeguarding ancestral lands and sacred sites.
Our unwavering efforts focus on acquiring and preserving these vital spaces, ensuring the continuity of Indigenous traditions and the richness of the natural world. Beyond maintaining environmental equilibrium, we prioritize reverence for the diverse connections woven by Native American peoples.
Our mission goes beyond physical preservation; it is a commitment to nurturing a living legacy — connecting the threads of the past with the present and future. Through collaboration, we aim to create a harmonious balance that sustains both the environment and the profound significance embedded in these sacred lands. The Native American Land Conservancy stands as a guardian, ensuring the endurance and beauty of Indigenous cultures for generations to come.
